The concept
Business
I'm a self-employed web consultant - you can find my corporate site at www.maltpress.co.uk. One of the big things I advocate is usability - sites which anyone can use, and which make sense to the people reading them. This site's not necessarily part of that.
Like a concept car, it's got features you'd never want to see on a production model - but I'm using them because I want to see how they work. I want to see how I can make them more usable. Take the menu, for example - it's not accessible in the slightest. But in building it I learnt a lot about JavaScript I wouldn't otherwise have known and, for the sake of this site, it looks pretty cool.
Pleasure
the site's also home to all the other things about me I need an outlet for - my hobbies, my other skills, and the sorts of things I'm up to. Why? Vanity, mainly.
The name and designs
The name and designs for the site were the brainchild of Oli Blackwell, writer, cartoonist, friend, man with some interesting drunken stories. When trying to think of a name for my compay he suggested JuicyFly - after all, what I do is web content. And what do you find in the best webs? Juicy flies.
