About the empire

The JuicyFly empire started small; 80px x 15px, to be exact. JuicyFly was going to be the name of my company, and I wanted a way to mark the other sites I was responsible for - my blog, my personal site, and any future ones. So I designed a little button like the standard small xml icons - and needed a word to go after "JuicyFly". Empire just sounded right.

Part of the JuicyFly empire

Time went by, and I discovered JuicyFly wasn't really the right name for the business. My name - Maltpress - is recognisable, abstract enough to not have people asking what it all meant, and known by the sorts of people I wanted to market to - the public sector in the East of England. So I dropped JuicyFly. But by this time I had images. I had a domain name. I had a concept.

I also needed somewhere to put my personal stuff. I like to have a place for my upcoming (and indeed past) comedy gigs; I like to share the things I enjoy.

And finally, I found that a business website needs to be safe. It needs to comply to standards, it needs to be accessible, and it needs to be... business-like. Arguably every website needs to comply to standards and be accessible; but I needed a space to experiment with things. So here it is.
